Captain Naoum El Hajj, of Lebanon, and Second Officer Maikel Maher Saad, of Egypt, sail the Bisanzio through the Suez Canal as it leaves Port Said, Egypt on April 9, 2008. The Bisanzio, a feeder ship taking containers from Port Said to Beirut, is Lebanese owned, has three different nationalities aboard, and flies a St. Vincent flag. The Suez Canal is one of the most important shipping routes in the world, as it allows allows two-way water transportation - most importantly between Europe and Asia without the circumnavigation of Africa.
