Sebastian Panachikavayalil, a UN humanitarian affairs officer based in Iraq for the past 6 years, is treated at the Al Kindy Hospital for injuries to the neck and the loss of his left ear in Baghdad, Iraq on Aug. 20, 2003. He was injured while working at the UN base inside the Canal Hotel where a cement truck packed with explosives detonated outside the offices killing 20 people and devastating the facility. This was an unprecedented suicide attack against the world body with at least 100 people wounded.
