Sri Lanka After the Tsunami
Add to Lightbox DownloadResidents of Dutch Bar start to dismantle the remaining parts of their destroyed homes before looters arrive, Batticaloa, Sri Lanka, Jan. 16, 2005. They plan to reuse the pieces on their new homes, whenever they get to that stage. Residents of the small Christian village spent more than six weeks at a local convent recovering from the devastating Tsunami that hit the eastern and southern borders of Sri Lanka. The village was first placed in a makeshift refugee camp at St. Cecilia's Convent, then they were moved to in another temporary living camp, while awaiting the building of new homes.
